Review: Rimmel Lipstick in Paradise

As promised in this post a looooooong looooooong time ago (sorry for that!), here is a review on Rimmel's Lasting Finish lipstick in Paradise. And sorry in advance for the blurry pics-I don't know what happenned! I've never had so many blurry pics in one post, haha! I guess I was in a bit of a hurry...

The packaging is fairly simple, just a simple tube. It is a shimmery dark purple tube with a cute accent on the top. Except for it's slightly bulky feel, it's ok.

The shade is Paradise. And don't be fooled by the swatch on the bottom of the lipstick. It's really a bit of a plummy color-a purplish nude.

Here's a couple of swatchs:

On the left is a lighter application, just one swipe, and on the right, I really went to town, haha! One of the things I love about the entire line is that most of the lipsticks, this one included, are layerable. If I'm not in the mood for a dark lip, I just dab it on for a stained look. But if I want a more done look I can layer it on until it's fairly dark. Check out this pic for a better idea of the color, cause this one was definitely harder to capture.

Here it is on my lips:

I don't know how well you can tell from the pictures above, but it is definitely a bit purplish. This would be a light to medium application.

For a drugstore lipstick, this one is nice. There is a bit of a smell. Sometimes I feel that it isn't too bad, but every now and then I put it on and it does feel a bit cloying. It's kinda spicy, almost like cinnamon, if you've ever smelled those lip plumpers, it's kinda like that. What I really love, however, is that it has no taste!!! Taste is a biggie for me. I can't take lipsticks that smell good but then taste rancid. Ugh (*shudders*)!!! The lipstick is very layerable, as mentioned above, and also very pigmented, so a little goes a long way. Now, as for lasting power, it does well. Not great, but not bad. It lasted for about three and a half hours before I reapplied, but then again I apply it fairly lightly so that may have impacted the lasting power. I'm sure if you layer it on, it will last longer.

The lipstick itself applies very creamy, almost like a balm. However, while it doesn't dry out my lips I don't find it particularly moisturizing. If you have chapped lips, like many of us in the winter, I would definitely prep with a balm because it will emphasize cracks, and this is one of the downsides with this lipstick. If you are older and have wrinkled lips, this lipstick is not a good choice. It sinks into every line/little crevice, and the shimmery formula emphasizes every wrinkle, so either go for a lighter/less shimmery shade, or skip this lipstick altogether. Overall, it's a good drugstore lipstick. Not great, but a reasonably good pick for the price.

  1. I hate the smell of these lipsticks. They're not overpowering, but they smell disgusting to me. SO I don't buy them :[

  3. @Lisex512-I know what you mean. I'm not a big fan of vanilla scented lipsticks and I know that it's a popular scent, but honestly I can't stand it.

@ndoodles-I love it for casual wear with a neutral eye because it still has a bit of a purple undertone, so it's not totally neutral.

    Thanks for commenting!
